Unit 3&4
UNIT 3
On Monday 4th November we watched the videos that Rob took of our haunted houses performances and Shenagh gave each group improvements. For my group we had to make the last scene very clear as she didn't understand. We then had to do scene break down for silent movie.
Scene 1- Ouija Board
Setting / friend's house 4 friends are playing the Ouija board and we ask 2 questions.
This is how we did ours:
1.Are there any spirits with us ?
1.Are there any spirits with us ?
2.Is something bad going to happen today?
And the answer to each question was 'yes'. We then stop playing
Scene 2 - Funfair
fun fair at the fun fair we decide to see the fortune teller. Ashley asks about her future, she is told that she will die in the haunted house. He then says if you choose to go in do not look at the blue light or else!
Scene 3- Haunted House
We see the haunted house and choose to go in however Ashleigh does not want to enter because she's afraid of what the fortune teller told her. But we convince her that everything will be ok and she eventually comes in with us.
Scene 4- Fortune Teller
Inside the haunted house when they walk in one of the friends looks directly at the blue light that she was told not to look at, she then becomes hypnotised and unable to move, the other friend comes in front and looks at her trying to help her when told not to, then she becomes hypnotised after the first one. The friend that came out the hypnosis stood there in confusion. whilst one of the friends tries to help the hypnotised friend. while helping the hypnotised friend she accidentally looked at her and fell into a deep sleep. After falling into a deep sleep all her friends went back to normal and were extremely worried about the friend that had fallen asleep and tried to wake her up. Whilst trying to wake the friend up the fortune teller appeared and told them that they were wrong to come to the house and they shouldn't have come and explains how he wants everyone's soul as he had already taken the friend that had fallen into a deep sleep. One of the friends runs away to get the car started and the two friends left in the house started to argue whether or not they should leave the hypnotised friend or to run away and leave./
Scene 5 - Car.
The two friends run out of the house and jump straight into the car, the fortune teller sends the hypnotised friend to go and get the 3 friends and to bring them to him. The remaining 3 friends are in the car however the car wont start, they start panicking in fear when suddenly to the left the hypnotised friend comes and is about to break in …..
CREPPE
C-context
The context behind our piece is horror/mystery and we try to explore the theme in the most interesting way possible. We had to be creative as we only have a short performing time, so including everything would be quite a challenge.
RE-research
How I Researched The Character :
For our research we had to look at other silent movies to have an understanding of what they look like. In class we had a look at some silent movie examples and watched how they exaggerated their movements to create a humorous film.

The cure is a silent movie released in 1912 which was written by Charlie Chaplin. It stars John Bunny and Flora Finch. I had to research a couple of silent movies and I instantly though about Charlie Chaplin as he's a English Comic actor, film maker and composer who rose to fame in the era of Silent Film . Up to today he is still a world wide icon through his screen persona "The Tramp". Many people consider him to be an important figure in the film industry.
By researching more about silent film and where it has originated from I can say that I feel more known to the subject as I have familiarised myself with the history it comes with.

P-planning
Planning is something the group has to do together in order to create the performance, we have to all be able to plan it together so we understand what we are working on If not we will not have anything to work on, It is also something mandatory as planning is building the foundation on which the actual performance will lay on.
P-problem solving
During the process, as a group we didn't specifically face any problems, the only thing we had to adjust to was adding a new member into our group during rehearsals. We had to figure out which lines he was going to say and how we'd change parts of the performance so that it make sense.
E-evaluation
Overall, the performance as a whole was a huge success, we were able to pull everything off and make it as interesting as possible using the short amount of time we had. We all got along so well and that made it much more easier.
UNIT 4
What Went Well ?
During the performance as a whole each character did exactly what was required, each character played their role according to how it was planned and that's what made it so successful. The fact that we had to include an extra person to our performance and still be able to make it work shows how we as a group work hard to try and make out performances work. out at the end. In our performance we had a fortune teller which had to dress up and use props, the props we had to use was
- Tin foil
- medium sized ball
- plate
- scarf
- table
- vintage table cloth
- White board
The tin foil was used to wrap the ball as the fortune teller's crystal ball, the plate was used to place the ball on for extra elevation, the scarf was used for a turban, it created a more mysterious look, the vintage table cloth was placed on the table and chair to make the scene seem more surreal, the white board was used as the Ouija board, we wrote on the board with a marker to make the board look realistic.
What could have gone better ?
To a great degree, most of what we did had gone well, however if there were a few things I could change I would firstly change the fact that we didn't get a chance to view what was behind us on the green screen, that made it harder for us as we couldn't get to see what type of image we were in. Secondly another thing that affected us was the timings, we did not get enough time to get everything ready, for example we had a prop missing which was the Ouija Board however we managed to improvise and make our own.

Lighting :
Lighting is very significant in creating the mood and atmosphere, audiences will associate different qualities of light with different moods.
How lighting affects the audience?
Lighting can affect the audience as it can make them feel a certain way, for example if it were to be a harsh lighting (e.g red) the audience would get an idea of anger or sadness whereas if it were a soft light (e.g yellow) they would know the scene is romantic or about happiness.Scene 1: Ouija Board
Scene 1 starts off with 3 friends in their living room playing on the Ouija board, one of the friend asks the questions ( are there any bad spirits here in this rom? and Is anything bad going to happen to us today?) when our hands go over the word yes a red spotlight comes over us, and the second time our hands move again a the red spotlight will come focusing on us.
Scene 2: Fun Fair
Scene 3: Haunted House
In scene 3 whilst being in the funfair we see a haunted house, (which we were told not to go into to) two of the friends decide to go in whilst the other refuses and is afraid of what the fortune teller told her, the friends manage to convince her and they all go in. The first friend walks in and sees the blue light (they were told not to look at) and gets possessed,
when this happens there will be a complete black out the lights come back on and suddenly the other friend is possessed too, leaving the first friend confused, again there will be a black out, lastly when the lights come back on the possession will be passed onto the last friend and another blackout will occur, The lights come back on except the last friend is stuck unable to move.
Scene 4 : Fortune teller
In scene 4, when the fortune teller walks into the room a white spotlight focuses on him, creating an ominous affect, he then looks at the other two friends and glares at them, after this he looks at Ashleigh and summons her to stand up while the two friends are trying to help her escape. One of the friends goes to get the car started while the other is trying to stall him.
Scene 5 : Car
In the final scene we see the last friend run to the car to escape however the friend driving has an issue, the car wont start and at this moment we see white flickering lights turning on and off very rapidly, the possessed friend was sent to capture us by the fortune teller, we see her getting closer and the lights are continuing to flutter as she is just about to bang in through the window there's a complete blackout.....
The lighting was a very interesting aspect of acting to look at as it helped me look more into the production and what they do, it has also helped me understand the importance as without the lighting a huge part of the play/production will be missing.
The technician- meeting with Ezra
Today our group had to meet with a technician named Ezra, we spoke about the lighting, and discussed what lights we want, when we want them and the colour we want and told him what we want in every scene as every scene is different. We managed to tell him exactly what we want to happen and hopefully we will be able to have the lighting that we imagined in our performance.Next week he will go to the Camden's peoples theatre and make sure the lighting we want is available there and if the colours we chose are also available.
Camden's People Theatre Evaluation -
The process as a whole was very successful, although it took quite some time I feel like it went well and we managed to go over everything in time.
We all left school at 1:30 pm and arrived at around 2:00, when we arrived we all sat down and took a Minuit to observe the space we have and to able to discuss where our props were going to be placed. We waited for everyone to be in the room and then we had to start our rehearsals, we had to practice rehearing with the small amount of space we had, this did limit us from performing our best however we managed to pull it off and make it work. There were 4 groups for the silent movie project, we had to wait until it was our go to rehearse with the music and the lighting. Our first couple of rehearsals were done without lighting and music so we could see how we were going to perform with the space given, the next couple of tries were done with the lighting and music,
